Pereira earns seventh-career ICCAC weekly award

Sophomore Rafael Pereira (Lisbon, Portugal/Escola Secundaria Vergilio Ferreira) of the Marshalltown Community College men's soccer team closed out the 2016 regular season with his seventh-career Iowa Community College Athletic Conference (ICCAC) Goalkeeper of the Week award.

Pereira helped guide the No. 14 Tigers to a pair of shutouts last week, the 18th and 19th shutouts of his career. With the two clean sheets, Pereira lowered his season goals against average to 0.78.

MCC defeated Hawkeye Community College 1-0 on Tuesday and shut out Northeast Community College 3-0 on Saturday to finish the regular season with a 13-3-1 overall record and a 12-3-1 mark in the ICCAC. The two wins helped the Tigers clinch the No. 2 seed in this week's Region XI Tournament.

Pereira, a NJCAA First-Team All-American as a freshman, earned four ICCAC Goalie of the Week honors last season and has been honored three times this season.

Pereira and the Tigers will host No. 7 seed Dakota County Technical College at 3:00 PM on Wednesday afternoon in the quarterfinal round of the Region XI Tournament.
