Men's Soccer announces 2017 schedule

The Marshalltown Community College Soccer Team has announced its schedule for the 2017 seasons. The Tigers are coming off one of the best seasons in program history that saw the team finish the season 15-4-1 and were ranked No. 15 at the NJCAA poll at the end of the year.

The 16- game slate for the Tigers in 2017 is vastly different then schedules of the past where each of the 9 Iowa Community College Athletic Conference (ICCAC) schools would play each other twice, both home and away. The ICCAC has adopted a new schedule, and a new member (Dakota County Technical College), in which each school will play each other one time during the regular season to count for conference standings making a total of 9 ICCAC conference games.

After a pair of preseason scrimmages, the 2017 regular season campaign opens up on the road on August 25th against Metropolitan Community College (MCC) of Kansas City at Maple Woods. MCC-Maple Woods who competes in Region XVI, posted a 1-14-1 record in 2016. In that same non-conference road trip, the Tigers will also square off against Johnson County Community College of Overland Park, Kansas. The Cavaliers participate in region VI and were 11-5-1 this past season.

The Tigers open their home schedule on September 2nd when they take on Anoka Ramsey Community College. The Golden Rams are coming off of a very successful 2016 campaign in which they won the NJCAA Region XIII championship. They narrowly missed a trip to the National Tournament falling to Richland College in the District C semifinal.

The key matchup will not come until October 21st when the Tigers travel to Iowa Western Community College. The Tigers won the regular season series against the Reivers in 2016, winning their home match 2-0, and tying the match in Council Bluffs later on in the season. The Reivers did prevail in the Region XI Championship where Iowa Western took a 1-0 victory.

Other notable matchups for the Tigers consist of a home match with Iowa Central Community College on September 16th. The Tigers travel to Iowa Lakes Community College on September 23rd, the Lakers spent time ranked in the NJCAA polls in 2016. Marshalltown will also travel to Dakota County Technical College on Friday, October 6th. With the new ICCAC region schedule, matches with DCTC will count in the conference standings for the first time.

This year's Region XI Tournament will begin on October 28th with the semifinal on October 31st, both games will be held at the higher seeded team's home site. The Championship game will be on November 4th at Cownie Complex in Des Moines.

Home contests and a majority of road matches will be streamed live online and live statistics will also be provided throughout the year.
