Tigers Defeat NIACC 2-1

Tigers Defeat NIACC 2-1

The MCC Men's Soccer team traveled to Mason City to take on the 3-0 Trojans from North Iowa Area Community College.  Marshalltown took an early lead when Rafael Vacas scored in the first half before going up 2-0 off a corner kick that found the net by Eneko Lasheras. NIACC moved the score to 2-1 in the 70th minute when Jack Doyle found the net for the Trojans. The Tigers move to 3-0 on the season and are currently ranked 13th in Division I Soccer.

Head coached Rafael Martinez was pleased with the way the team played, "We are happy to start the season with a win away from home. NIACC is always a very tough team to beat so we had to compete for all 90 minutes in order to secure the victory. I thought we combined great moments of great football with other moments in which NIACC pushed us to play a different kind of match than what we wanted. It was a great first taste of our conference competativeness for our large freshman class. We look forward to our next match on Tuesday with the objective to continue improving."

The Tiger Men's Soccer team will be back in action on Tuesday when they travel to Hawkeye Community College and take on the Red Tails starting at 6:00 PM.
