Sophomore Day Victory

Sophomore Day Victory

Tuesday afternoon the #9 MCC men's soccer team hosted the Hawks of Northeast Community College in a makeup game originally scheduled for October 14. On a perfect fall day, the Tigers celebrated their sophomores in the annual Sophomore Day game. Players received a plaque and recognition for their efforts as a MCC student athlete.  The Tigers would have a lot to celebrate as they ran away with a 7-2 victory. Kino Ryosuke had yet another impressive game scoring three goals and tied the MCC career record mark with 40 goals.

As is common in Tiger soccer games, the team scored in the opening minutes when Bruno Osorio found the net to give the Tigers a 1-0 lead. Kino Ryosuke would then take over the game scoring the next three goals for the Tigers. Not letting up in the second half, fellow sophomores Roger De la Villa and Eneko Lasheras each added a goal and Freshman Rafael Vacas would add a goal from an Eneko Lasheras assist to cap off the 7-2 victory.

"This was a great game played by the whole team," stated Coach Fuchsen, "it was nice to see the sophomores get extended playing time. This group of sophomores exemplify what it takes to compete and succeed at this level. The result was a great way to close out their last regular season home game."

The Tigers are now 12-1 on the season and 7-1 in conference play. With sole possession of first place in the conference Saturdays match up with Iowa Western will determine the home field advantage through the tournament schedule. The Tigers will travel to #12 Iowa Western Saturday to take on the conference foe.
