Tigers Advance to Region XI Semifinal

The MCC men's soccer team hosted the Hawks of Northeast Community College Saturday afternoon in the Region XI Quarterfinal. On a cold and windy Saturday afternoon, the Tigers would not let the weather decide their fate. With temperatures in the low thirties the entire game, the Tigers were able to scored quickly and controlled the ball the majority of the game to secure a first round victory 3-1.

David Kromah was able to find the net in just the second minute of play to put the Tigers up 1-0. Five minutes later Pedro Silva scored off a header from an Eneko Lasheras corner kick. Up 2-0 early in the first half, the Tigers continued to put pressure on the Hawks recording six shots in the first half. Late in the second, the Hawks would get on the board when Victor Galterio recorded the hawks only goal of the game. The Tigers would respond quickly when in the eighty-seventh minute, Kino Ryosuke found the net to go up 3-1. The goal would be Ryosuke's twenty-third of the season and forty-first in his career making him the all-time scorer in MCC history.

When asked about the record breaking goal Ryosuke stated, "I'm happy I was able to get the goal and the record but the credit really goes to all my teammates who consistently put me in the right spot and allow me to score. I care more about the team winning then scoring goals so as long as we win I am happy."

"Kino deserves this record, he has been a tremendous asset to this program, he has left his mark here at MCC," stated Coach Chris Fuchsen.

The Tigers will advance to the Region XI Semifinals on Tuesday when they will travel to Iowa Western Community College. Last week the Tigers traveled to Iowa Western and came up short in a 1-0 game. Although the team is excited about their victory against Northeast, they know a tough test lies ahead. "We are excited that we were able to defeat Northeast, but we have to refocus on Iowa Western who beat us last week." Stated Kino Ryosuke after the game. "I think we are better team but we are going to have to play better than we did last time."

Tuesdays Semifinal match will begin at 2:00 pm in Council Bluffs. If you are unable to attend, the match will be streamed live on the Reiver Sports Network located on the Iowa Western athletics website.
