Serrano tabbed Goalkeeper of the Week

Sophomore Joel Serrano has been named the goalkeeper of the week for the week of October 22nd through October 28th by the National Junior College Athletic Association. During the week, Serrano was a main factor in the Tigers winning their first Region XI Championship since 2012. During the week, the Tigers defeated Iowa Western 2-0, and then #8 Iowa Lakes 1-0 in overtime.

In 187 minutes played, Serrano registered seven saves and earned two clean sheets during the week. He has a staggering .060 goals against average this season, and was recently named to the All-Region 1st team for his efforts in goal. Nationally, he ranks in the top ten in the following categories: goals against average, goals allowed, wins, and shutouts. He will be relied upon heavily, along with his defensemen to come up big on Saturday in the Great Lakes District Championship.

"I am very happy that Joel received this recognition from the NJCAA. He really was superb during tournament play, coming off his goal in set pieces and making incredible saves that kept us in the game at critical moments. As a program, we are very lucky to have a formidable group of three goalkeepers and a goalkeepers coach that work extremely hard to maintain a high level of performance on a consistent basis," Head Coach Rafael Martinez stated of Serrano.
