MCC tabs Tyrone Robinson as new softball coach

Marshalltown Community College athletics officially announced the hiring of Tyrone Robinson as the school's head softball coach. Robinson comes to MCC after serving as the associate head coach at Division I Alabama A&M and will begin his tenure at MCC August 5.

MCC Director of Athletics Dan Huntley is pleased to announce the newest addition to the department. "I am excited to have Ty join our coaching staff," said Huntley.  "We are fortunate to be able to hire a coach with his credentials.  He has been and is a winner on the field and in leading his student athletes to success in the classroom.  He will challenge our young women to be successful and to expect good things to happen through their hard work."

"I have known Tyrone for 15 years and have watched him progress up the coaching ladder," Huntley continued.  "I have confidence that he will make a positive impact on our softball program beginning with the day he steps on our campus."

Robinson brings a wealth of coaching experience to MCC. Prior to his tenure at Alabama A&M, Robinson served as the associate head coach at Division I Mississippi Valley State University for two seasons where he helped lead the Delta Devils to 60 wins over two seasons, including the Southwest Athletic Conference (SWAC) regular season and conference title in 2012.

Robinson expressed his excitement for the opportunity and the future of the MCC program. "I would like to thank Dan Huntley and Marshalltown Community College for this chance to be the next head coach of the Tigers. I'm here to build a winning tradition. It's going to take hard work. Our program will be run in a first class manner and our student-athletes will have a great experience."

Robinson began coaching at the junior college level prior to his Division I terms. Robinson got his coaching experience underway at Rainy River Community College (MN), leading the Voyageurs to a regional championship and a fourth place finish at the NJCAA national tournament in 2005. For his efforts, Robinson and his staff were awarded the Regional Coaching Staff of the Year award.

Following his stint at Rainy River, Robinson took the helm at McCook Community College (NE) where the Indians won 30 games in 2008, a school record.

Robinson earned his bachelor's degree in physical education from Northern State University (SD) where he lettered in baseball from 2001-2003 as a pitcher. Robinson is currently working towards the completion of a master's degree in Sports Studies.
