Softball takes part in Family Reading Night

The Marshalltown Community College softball team wrapped up its fall season recently and started their offseason by giving back to the community. The Tigers spent Tuesday night at Fisher Elementary School where members of the team took part in Family Reading Night.

The Tigers spent their night in classrooms reading a variety of books to the local children. The students received one free book to take home as part of the Family Reading Night.

"This was a great chance for our student-athletes to get involved with the community," said head softball coach Ty Robinson. "Our team was able to spend a night with the local kids while emphasizing the importance of reading and education. The kids really seemed to enjoy their night with the team."

Sophomore pitcher Sarah Wilson was one of the members of the team that read to the kids. "The night was a huge success. A lot of kids came out to get involved with reading and seemed to enjoy it. It was great to be able to experience how important reading was to them."
