Tigers fall in opener as rain shortens Midwest Classic

Bixby, OK—Inclement weather shortened the Marshalltown Community College softball team's afternoon at the Midwest Classic as the Tigers managed to get just one of their three games in. MCC dropped its opening contest 3-0 to Eastern Oklahoma State College.

Sarah Wilson (Ottumwa, IA/Ottumwa) pitched all seven innings for the Tigers (6-4), scattering seven hits while striking out five batters.

MCC was scheduled to play two more games on the day, but the tournament was halted after early morning thunderstorms moved through Bixby.

The Tigers entered Saturday on a five-game winning streak, outscoring their opponents 53-3 during the stretch, but the offense struggled to find its groove against the Mountaineers. The Tigers struck out six times in the first two innings as Eastern Oklahoma struck first with a run in the top of the fourth.

MCC responded in the bottom of the half the inning to load the bases with two outs but failed to get on the board. The Tigers put just one base runner on in the final three innings to snap the team's streak.

Wilson, Mackenzie Gott (Oskaloosa, IA/Oskaloosa), and Shaiann Treu (Waianae, HI/Nanakuli) each recorded a hit for MCC.

Pending weather, the Tigers will resume play with their originally scheduled three games at the Midwest Classic tomorrow, set to begin at 11:00 AM against Southeast Community College.
