Softball stumbles twice on the road at Simpson

Indianola, IA—The Marshalltown Community College softball team dropped a pair of games on the road Tuesday afternoon, falling to Simpson JV 8-0 and 12-2. Lauren Wolfe (Miles City, MT/Custer County) and Amanda Staudt (Charles City, IA/Charles City) both collected three hits in the nightcap.

The Tigers were held without a hit to open the day. Cass Vasquez (Los Angeles, CA/Oscar De La Hoya) took the loss for the Tigers.

Wolfe opened game two with a leadoff single and collected three singles throughout the day. Both Tiger runs came in the fourth inning after Staudt led off the frame with a double. Wolfe drove Staudt in with an RBI-single and Sarah Ghee (Carlisle, IA/Carlisle) scored Kayla Lopez (Tracy, CA/Merril F. West) with an RBI-single of her own.

Staudt finished the game with two doubles.

Dan Huntley, newly appointed MCC softball coach, commended his team for a competitive effort against the Storm. "We played a very good JV team today. We were a little more comfortable in game two, but could not generate runs. Lauren did a great job in relief for us."

Wolfe relieved Chezarae Garcia (Ogden, UT/Ogden) in the second inning and allowed just two earned runs in the circle.

"The one error combined in two games was a strong point for us," Huntley added. "That will help us head in the right direction as the season moves on. I was proud of our effort and today gives us something to build off of and also some things we can improve on."

MCC returns to action on the road at MCC- Maple Woods on Thursday afternoon in Kansas City, MO.
