Pirates handle MCC on the road

Trenton, MO—Playing their fourth doubleheader in four days, the Marshalltown Community College softball team fell twice on the road to North Central Missouri College on Tuesday afternoon, 9-0 and 16-1. Kortlan Ollinger (Robins, IA/Linn Mar) tripled and scored the lone run for the Tigers.

MCC game one starting pitcher Lauren Wolfe (Miles City, MT/Custer County) allowed just three baserunners in the first two innings for the Tigers, but the Pirates managed to score one run to take the early lead. The Tiger offense failed to get anything going as NCMC scored five runs in the third and three more in the fourth to drop the Tigers in five innings.

In game two, Ollinger found the gap in right centerfield that rolled all the way to the wall for a one-out triple. Sarah Ghee (Carlisle, IA/Carlisle) followed up with her team-leading 15th RBI on a single, scoring Ollinger to propel MCC to a 1-0 lead.

The Pirates wasted no time swatting away the Tigers' lead as NCMC scored eight runs on nine hits in the bottom of the first inning. NCMC added eight more in the second before relief pitcher Wolfe allowed just one baserunner in the final two frames.

The Tigers welcome a three-day layoff before returning to action against Central Community College in Oskaloosa, IA at 9:00 AM on Saturday. MCC cancelled its three scheduled games at the PGF Midwest Classic in Oskaloosa on Friday.
