Tigers' season comes to a close in Region XI Tournament

Muscatine, IA—The Marshalltown Community College softball season came to an end on Sunday afternoon, falling 10-1 to Muscatine Community College at the Region XI Tournament, hosted by the Cardinals. Lauren Wolfe (Miles City, MT/Custer County) collected two hits in the loss.

Originally scheduled for a 4:00 PM start on Friday afternoon, thunderstorms throughout the weekend pushed the game back to a Sunday start where the No. 5 seed Tigers took on No. 3 seed Muscatine in an elimination game. MCC dropped its opening contest of the double-elimination tournament to No. 4 seed Southeastern Community College 8-0 on Friday.

The Tigers had the momentum early after keeping the Cardinals to a scoreless first inning and scored the game's first run in the second frame. Kari Smith (Marshalltown, IA/Marshalltown) drew a one-out walk and following a sacrifice bunt from Kaycee Ray (Clinton, UT/Clearfield), Raini Hilmer (Dysart, IA/Union) singled to left-centerfield to give MCC the early 1-0 lead.

Muscatine found its offensive stroke in the second inning as well as the Cardinals plated five runs in the inning. Muscatine added five more in the third while holding the Tigers to three straight scoreless innings to end MCC's season.

Cass Vasquez (Los Angeles, CA/Oscar De La Hoya) took the loss for MCC while Wolfe pitched 1.2 innings in the circle, allowing just one hit and striking out two batters. Amanda Staudt (Charles City, IA/Charles City) added a single for the Tigers.
