Softball falls twice on Sunday at THE Spring Games

Clermont, FL—The Marshalltown Community College Softball team suffered a pair of losses on Sunday afternoon at THE Spring Games, falling 7-6 in extra innings to Spoon River College and a narrow 2-1 loss to Monroe Community College.

In the opener against Spoon River, the Tigers jumped out to a 5-1 lead after a pair of two-run home runs, one from Raini Hilmer (Dysart, IA/Union) and another from Tess Cheetham (Oceanside, CA/Oceanside). The Snappers slowly chipped away at their deficit, scoring one run in the bottom of the fourth and two more in the sixth inning before tying the game at five in the bottom of the seventh to force extra innings.

MCC scored in the top of the eighth as Hilmer crossed the plate on a RBI-single from Paige Taylor (Coquitlam, British Columbia/Terry Fox), but Spoon River plated two runs on a base hit in the bottom half of the frame to steal the win.

After playing seven games in three days, including three extra inning contests, the Tigers welcome a day off on Monday before resuming play in Clermont with a doubleheader on Tuesday.
