Clermont, FL—The Marshalltown Community College softball team extended its winning streak to six before falling in the team's second game of the afternoon on Tuesday. MCC defeated Waubonsee Community College 7-5 before dropping a 10-9 contest to Madison College.

The Tigers held off a late rally from Waubonsee in the opening game to win its sixth consecutive contest in Florida. MCC built a 9-3 lead in the second game against Madison, but the Wolfpack fought back to win with a walk-off hit in the bottom of the seventh inning.

Freshman Shaena Robinson (Gardnerville, NV/Douglas) and sophomore Tess Cheetham (Oceanside, CA/Oceanside) continued to lead the offense in the middle of the lineup as the two combined to go 11-17 at the plate with nine RBI and four runs scored on the day. Six of the 11 hits went for extra bases.

Robinson was named the Iowa Community College Athletic Conference (ICCAC) Division I Player of the Week Tuesday afternoon.

Sophomore Paige Taylor (Coquitlam, British Columbia/Terry Fox) opened the day with three straight hitless innings in the circle against Waubonsee. The Tigers' first run of the day came in the bottom of the third on an RBI-single from Cheetham to score Courtney Fudge (Pleasant Hill, IA/Des Moines East). Dion Shirley (Van Meter, IA/Van Meter) added a two-run single in the fourth and Robinson followed up with her first home run of the day, a two-run shot, for a 5-0 lead.

The Chiefs put up four runs in the fifth inning, but the Tigers secured the win with two runs in the bottom of the fifth, including an RBI-single from Jordan Carter (Sigourney, IA/Sigourney).

Robinson, Cheetham, Shirley, and Josie Carpenter (Wapello, IA/Wapello) each produced two hits in the win while Taylor went the distance for the Tigers to earn the win.

Fudge scored on an RBI-double from Cheetham to put MCC on the board in the first inning of game two against Madison, but the Wolfpack plated two in the home half to take the lead. The Tigers burst out with four runs in the fourth thanks to RBI base hits from Robinson, Cheetham and Annalee Myers (Ames, IA/Ames) for a 5-2 lead.

MCC tacked on four more runs in the fifth with a two-run single from Carpenter and a two-run home run from Robinson. The inning marked the eighth time in eight games the Tigers have scored at least four runs in an inning this year.

The Tigers held a 9-4 lead heading to the bottom of the seventh inning with another win in sight, but the Wolfpack scored six runs in their final at bat to steal a victory from the Tigers.

The six-game winning streak was the longest for the Tigers since the 2014 team won 10 in a row.

MCC and Madison square off again on Wednesday night at 5:00 PM. The Tigers will also play St. Ambrose JV at 7:30 PM.
