2017 NJCAA Division I Region XI Softball Tournament Bracket

Council Bluffs, IA – Early errors forced the Marshalltown Community College softball team to play from behind in Monday's NJCAA Division I Region XI Softball Tournament opener against Indian Hills Community College. The Tigers ultimately fell to the Warriors 7-1 in the first game of the double-elimination tournament.

The fourth-seeded Tigers move to the consolation bracket where they will take on the loser of second-seeded Iowa Western Community College and No. 3 seed Southeastern Community College at 12:00 PM Tuesday at the Reiver Sports Complex on the Iowa Western campus. The Reivers and Blackhawks square off at 4:00 PM Monday.

Originally scheduled to start Friday, unfavorable weather forced the tournament to start Monday afternoon. The Tigers got off on the wrong foot, racking up three errors in the first inning that led to a 1-0 lead for the Warriors.

Sophomore Lexie Valentine (Des Moines, IA/Saydel) scored the team's lone run of the game in the second inning after drawing a walk and scoring on an Indian Hills error. The Warriors regained the lead with a run in the second inning and added four more in the third to pull away.

Sophomore pitcher Paige Taylor (Coquitlam, British Columbia/Terry Fox) allowed just one earned run on the day, but was dealt the loss in the circle. Taylor struck out a pair of batters in the defeat.
