Freshman Shaena Robinson (Gardnerville, NV/Douglas) of the Marshalltown Community College softball team has been named the NJCAA Region XI Offensive Player of the Year. Robinson led the conference with a .493 batting average for the season.

A force at the plate, Robinson dominated opposing pitchers throughout the year. Along with leading the league in batting average, Robinson led the conference in on base percentage (.551), slugging percentage (.971), home runs (16), and extra base hits (33). Robinson's home run total ranks third in school history while her batting average is the second-best mark in program history.

Robinson made a splash in her inaugural season as a Tiger, starting the year on a 22-game hitting streak. The freshman collected 22 multi-hit games, including seven games with at least three hits and two games with four hits. Robinson led the Tigers with 68 hits and 49 RBI on the year.

Head coach Garland Shirley saw Robinson's potential before she even arrived at MCC. "We recruited Shaena knowing that we had a special player coming to our campus. She was easily one of the most explosive players on any roster in Division I. It is an honor to see her receive this award knowing that she will work hard to improve on a great start to her career."

Robinson was tabbed Iowa Community College Athletic Conference (ICCAC) Player of the Week three times in her rookie campaign.

Robinson becomes the second NJCAA Region XI Offensive Player of the Year in school history, joining former All-American Hally Lenzine (2012).
