The 2018 recruiting class continues to grow for the Marshalltown Community College softball team as the Tigers have signed Haleigh Carnes of Durant, IA to a National Letter of Intent. Carnes becomes the 11th commit for coach Garland Shirley's team next season.

"I had an opportunity to see Haleigh and the Durant softball team play in the 2016 state softball tournament," Shirley exclaimed regarding his draw to Carnes. "She is a very athletic and versatile player who comes from a program with high expectations. She can play both infield and outfield which gives us some strong options defensively. Coming from a program that has come to expect excellence, she also brings a certain drive and expectation that we want to catch fire throughout our program."

A Durant High School senior, Carnes was an All-River Valley First-Team selection for the Wildcats last year after hitting .352 with 36 RBI. A four-year varsity player, Carnes has helped Durant to consecutive Class 2A state tournament appearances.

During her signing at Durant, Carnes indicated that the Tigers' recent success played a pivotal role in her decision to join the program. "Coach Shirley was new last year and he brought a different aspect to the program," Carnes stated on her decision to sign with the Tigers. "I'm looking forward to staying with a competitive team."
