Tiger Softball Struggles on Opening Day

The MCC softball team traveled to Council Bluffs, Iowa on Saturday to take on the Reivers of Iowa Western. The Tigers were shaking the rust off in their first games on the season, falling to the Reivers 6-2 in game one and 10-2 in game two.

The Tigers struggled offensively all day long, recording only four hits in game one. Returning All-American Sheana Robinson had two hits with her four at bats and recorded one RBI. Anika Motsumoto and Annalee Myers where the only other Tigers to reach first base during game one. Sophomore Taylor Tague was in the circle for the Tigers, pitching six innings, giving up nine hits and six runs on the day.

The early season struggles continued for the Tigers in game two. The Tigers made a few changes in the lineup and put freshman Katelyn Cantu in the circle. The Tigers went down early, giving up two runs in the first inning. Responding in the second inning, Kaylee Hanks smashed a double that brought in a run. The Tigers continued to struggle defensively giving up two runs in the third inning and four runs in the fourth inning. Cantu ended game two with 109 total pitches in her five innings in the circle, giving up 15 hits and 10 runs. The bats were quite all game long with the excepting of Freshman Kylie Swan who went 3-3 at the plate with an RBI. Nicolette Dabbs and Kaylee Hanks each recorded a hit.

The Tigers get a few days off before traveling to Clermont, Florida during Spring Break. The team is scheduled to play eleven games on their trip to The Spring Games, while also getting time off to enjoy the Florida sun. The Tigers first game will be Sunday, March 11 when they take on Madison College at 3:30 pm. The team will play again at 6:00 pm, taking on Cuyahoga Community College.
