The MCC softball team hit to road Thursday, traveling to West Burlington, Iowa to take on the Blackhawks of Southeastern Community College. The Tigers entered their first conference matchup with a 9-8 record after having multiple games cancelled and postponed due to weather. The Tigers split with their conference foe, taking game one 6-2 before falling to the Blackhawks 5-3 in game two.
Game 1: Won 6-2
The Tigers took the early lead in game one, scoring two runs in the first inning. Leadoff hitter Chasity Jordan got on base followed by Shaena Robinson before Kylie Swan brought Jordan home. Robinson found her way across home plate and the Tigers took a two-run lead into the second where the Blackhawks evened it up. The Third inning went scoreless but in the fourth and fifth innings, the Tiger bats came back out, plating two runs in each inning.
Katelyn Cantu was in the circle for game one, pitching all seven innings, facing 27 batters and recording three strikeouts. Shaena Robinson and Saydee Terrel each continued their solid play at the plate, each going 2-3 in game one. Chasity Jordan, Kylie Swan, Anika Matsumoto, and Olivia Hubert were the only other Tigers to record a hit in game one.
Game 2: Lost 5-3
Batting first, the Tigers took the early lead in game two after Shaena Robinson blasted a home run over the center field fence in the first inning. The Blackhawks responded the bottom of the first after a Morgan Smith home run brought in two runs to take the lead. The Tigers hit the ball well all game, recording 11 hits but fell after back-to-back home runs in the sixth inning put the game away for the Blackhawks.
Taylor Tague started the game in the circle for the Tigers, facing eighteen batters and giving up three runs. With the game tied in the fifth inning Coach Shirley made a pitching change and put Katelyn Cantu back in to close out the game. Cantu faced ten batters, giving up three hits and two runs. Cantu was a force at the plate in game two, going 3-4 and recorded a RBI. Annalee Myers and Nicolette Dabbs each went 2-3 at the plate for the Tigers.

The MCC softball team will get Friday off before getting back to conference action when they host the Reivers of Iowa Western Community College on Saturday, April 7. The two teams have played twice this season. The Reivers won both games back on March 3 in Council Bluffs. Saturday's conference matchup is set to begin at 1:00 PM.
