Tigers Fall in Conference Doubleheader

The MCC softball team braved the cold and wind on Saturday afternoon, taking on the Reivers of Iowa Western Community College in a conference doubleheader. The Reivers had defeated the Tigers back on March 3 in Council Bluffs in the Tigers first games of the season. The Tigers dropped both games Saturday afternoon, falling to 10-11 on the season and 1-3 in conference play.

Game 1: Lost 6-1

Game one was closely contested until the final inning. With five straight scoreless innings, the Reivers got on the board from a two run home run over the center field fence by Tyla Lee. The Tigers responded in the bottom of the sixth inning, when Saydee Terrell ripped a triple bringing in Nicolette Dabbs for the Tigers only score of the game. The Reivers took the game in the final inning, bringing in four runs off two home runs by Celia Valencia and Tyla Lee.

The Tigers were out hit 5-9 at the plate with Saydee Terrell leading the way going 2-3 and the lone RBI. Freshman Katelyn Cantu was in the circle for the Tigers, pitching all seven innings, facing 32 batters and giving up nine hits.

Game 2: Lost 13-5

The Tigers started game two hot, smashing back to back home runs over the left field fence to take a 3-1 lead into the second inning. After a scoreless second inning, the Reivers added three runs in the third and three runs in the fourth before the Tigers plated two. With the Reivers up 7-5 entering the fifth inning their bats came alive scoring six runs to close out the game.

Katelyn Cantu led the way for the Tigers at the plate, going 2-3 and bringing in two RBIs. Saydee Terrell also added two RBIs with her fourth inning home run. Taylor Tague was in the circle for the Tigers, throwing 100 total pitched in five innings. Tague faced 36 batters, throwing 56 strikes, giving up 15 hits and 4 walks.

The Tigers will be back in action Tuesday, April 10 when they travel Boone, Iowa to take on the Bears of Des Moines Area Community College. The Bears are currently undefeated at 22-0, scoring 157 runs and 23 home runs so far this season. Tuesday's games are set to begin at 2:00 PM.
