Tigers Split with Doane University

The Marshalltown Community College softball team traveled to Crete, Nebraska on Monday afternoon to take on the Junior Varsity squad of Doane University. The Tigers split with Doane University, dropping game one 7-6 then winning 5-0 in game two.

Game One: Lost 7-6

After a scoreless first inning, MCC got on the board when freshman Saydee Terrell blasted a home run over the left field fence. The Tigers added two more runs in the third inning when Kylie Swan and Nicolette Dabbs made it around the plates. Katelyn Cantu pitched two scoreless innings before giving up a pair of runs in game one. Tigers continued to add runs in the fourth, fifth and six innings before Doane poured it on in the bottom of the sixth, scoring five runs to take a one-run lead.

The Tigers were led at the plate by Taylor Tague who went 3-4 while recording two RBIs, Nicolette Dabbs also went 3-4 while recording one RBI. Katelyn Cantu pitched all six innings for the Tigers, facing 32 batters while giving up 12 hits and 7 earned runs. 

Game Two: Won 5-0

The Tigers looked to split the doubleheader by taking game two. The Tigers exploded in the first inning with three runs on five hits. Chasity Jordan, Kylie Swan, and Katelyn Cantu all made it around the bases in the first. The Tigers added runs in the third and sixth innings while sophomore Taylor Tague pitched her best game, giving up only three hits while not surrendering a run. Taylor Tague not only had success in the circle but also at the plate, leading the Tigers by going 2-4 with 1 RBI.

The Tigers will be back in action on Tuesday, April 17 when they travel to Norfolk, Nebraska to take on the Hawks of Northeast Community College. The Hawks are currently 14-22 on the season and 3-11 in ICCAC play. Tuesday's doubleheader is set to begin at 2:00 PM.
