Sophomore Day Split

The MCC softball team was back in Marshalltown on Saturday, hosting Southeastern Community College in an ICCAC doubleheader. The conference games also served as Sophomore Day, with the five sophomores recognized between games. The Tigers split with the Blackhawks back on April 5 and again they split, winning the first game 4-3 and dropped game two 9-3.

Game One: Won 4-3

The Tigers had to hit their way out of a hole in game one, giving up runs in the second and third innings to go down 3-0. Chasity Jordan opened up the fourth inning by smashing a home run over the right field fence to get on the board. Kylie Swan made it back to back home runs in the fourth to get the Tigers within one. Anika Matsumoto made her way around the bases in the sixth inning to add the tying run.  Three scoreless inning s later the game freshman Saydee Terrell blasted the game winner with a home run over the left field fence. Chasity Jordan and Saydee Terrell led the Tigers at the plate, with each going 2-4, with a home run. Freshman Katelyn Cantu pitched all ten innings for the Tigers, facing 40 batters in the win.

Game Two: Lost 9-3

The Tigers again started the game in hole, surrendering runs in the second and third innings again before getting on the board. Southwestern was able to make noise at the plate, recording 11 hits while hitting a 2 run home run in the third inning. Down early, the Tigers were unable to but players in scoring position and eventually fell 9-3. Sophomore Taylor Tague has seen recent success at the plate and played will in game two, going 2-4 with two RBIs. Tague started the game in the circle, pitching five inning and facing 26 batters.

Up Next:

 The Tigers will travel to Estherville, Iowa on Tuesday for their final regular season games, taking on the Lakers of Iowa Lakes Community College. The Lakers are currently 14-22 and 5-11 in ICCAC Division II play. Tuesday's doubleheader is set to begin at 3:00 PM.
