Tigers Earn Three All-Region Selections

Tigers Earn Three All-Region Selections

The Marshalltown Community College softball season has now came to an end after the Region XI Division I Softball Tournament concluded on Sunday, April 29. After falling to Indian Hills Community College and Iowa Western Community College in the tournament, the Tigers finished the season with a 15-24 record and fourth in ICCAC Division I Softball. The Tigers were able to capture three spots on the All-Region teams this season, with freshmen Chasity Jordan and Saydee Terrell on the 2nd Team and sophomore Shaena Robinson earning a 1st Team nod as well as Defensive Player of the Year.

Shaena Robinson: 1st Team All-Region, ICCAC Defensive Player of the Year

It was no surprise that the returning All-American and former ICCAC Offensive Player of the Year would earn a spot on this list. Robinson led the conference in hits, RBIs, and home runs a year ago and reclaimed her home run title this season, tying her mark from a year ago with 16. Robinson finished with a .435 batting average, which ranks her third in the conference while holding an astonishing 1.000 slugging percentage. Robinson also drove in 41 runs and crossed the plate 37 times herself.  While she has always been consistent at the plate, her play in the outfield earned her Defensive Player of the Year. Robinson started 35 games in center field this season, recording 70 put outs and three assists.

Head Coach Garland Shirley believes Robinson is a truly special player stating, "Sheana is such an amazingly explosive and polished player whose defense was equally impressive as her offense. Her presence in the outfield held runners at bay at times and at others, her speed and range took away what would be hits against an average outfielder. She has developed into a complete player being among the best in either half of the inning."

Chasity Jordan: 2nd Team All-Region

Freshman Chasity Jordan played along side Robinson in the outfield and earned a 2nd Team nod for her play this season. The Runnelstown, Mississippi native was a model of consistency in the outfield all season long for the Tigers. In her freshman season she recorded only three errors and recorded 60 put outs for a .957 fielding percentage. Jordan was also the fourth highest batting average on the team with a .325 and behind only Robinson in hits, doubles and home runs with 41 hits and 10 doubles and six home runs.

"Chasity Jordan being selected to the All-Region team was not a surprise to me," stated Coach Shirley. "Her work ethic, class and character earned her a spot in our outfield very quickly and her competitiveness did the rest.  She is just scratching the surface of her talent so I look for her to continue to excel next season."

Saydee Terrell: 2nd Team All Region

Freshman Saydee Terrell earned her 2nd Team nod as a utility player and that is exactly what she is, playing catcher, 3rd base, and short stop this season. The Chariton, Iowa native impressed at the plate as a freshman, recording the third highest batting average and on base percentage of .326 and .417 respectively. Starting the first half of the season at short stop before play the majority of the time at catcher, Terrell excelled on defense with 90 put outs and 47 assists and holds the third highest fielding percentage with .938.

"Saydee has the rare combination of strength, speed, power, and ability," stated Shirley. "She was a true utility player this year who embodies that competitive fire that all coaches love to see. She has great presence behind the plate and plays both left side positions in the infield. She is also an excellent base runner who helped create offense when we were struggling."
