Calles nets 24 as MCC rolls over Falcons

Moberly, MO—Freshman guard Ilsie Calles (Van Nuys, CA/Fulton Prep) poured in a career-high 24 points to lead the Marshalltown Community College women's basketball team to a 98-56 victory over Southeastern Illinois Community College on day two of the Moberly Area Community College Tournament. The Tigers improve to 3-1 with the win.

Calles was one of four players to reach double-figures on the night. The freshman guard had scored just 19 points in the team's previous three games before her breakout performance against the Falcons. Calles scored nine first half points and lit up the scoreboard in the second half, connecting on three three-point shots. Calles finished with five shots from beyond the arc on the day.

Mackenzie Gott (Oskalosa, IA/Oskaloosa) recorded her third career 20-point game as the sophomore scored 10 points in each half. Kayla Hosoda (Fresno, CA/Clovis North) chipped in 13 points while Jamerka Martin (Milwaukee, WI/Rufus King), this week's Iowa Community College Athletic Conference (ICCAC) Offensive Player of the Week, scored 10 points.

The 98 points are the most scored for the Tigers since Jan. 8, 2011 when MCC defeated Sauk Valley Community College 98-68. The Tigers scored 62 first half points to pull away from the Falcons.

On Saturday, the Tigers connected on nine three-point shots, the most in one game for the Tigers this season. MCC is averaging 6.5 threes per game.

On Friday night, the Tigers suffered their first loss of the season, 63-56 to John Wood Community College. Jasmin Howe (Millicent, Australia/Millicent) led the Tigers with 16 points while Ashley Salgado (Ottumwa, IA/Ottumwa) scored 13 points. Kaleigh Sieck (Toledo, IA/South Tama) added 11.

The Tigers return to Marshalltown for a home date with Central College JV at 6:30 PM on Monday night.
