Defense stymies Blazers as MCC wins 73-38

Kansas City, MO—The Marshalltown Community College women's basketball team held its opponent to its lowest point total of the year as the Tigers defeated Lewis & Clark Community College 73-38 on Friday afternoon. The Tigers improve to 6-1 on the year with their fourth straight win.

Playing at the MCC-Penn Valley Classic, Mackenzie Gott (Oskaloosa, IA/Oskaloosa) poured in a team-high 15 points to go along with seven rebounds. Jasmin Howe (Millicent, Australia/Millicent) and Courtney Williams-Perry (Milwaukee, WI/Bradley Tech) came off the bench to reach double-figures in the scoring column, going for 13 and 10, respectively. The 10 points are a career-high for Williams-Perry.

The Tigers jumped on the Blazers early on as MCC held a 21-6 advantage just over seven minutes into the contest. MCC went into halftime leading 37-14 thanks to 11 points in the first 20 minutes from both Gott and Howe.

MCC continued to dominate on both ends of the court in the second half. The Tigers built their lead to over 30 with under 12 minutes remaining and held a 55-20 lead at the 11:09 mark. MCC's lead never fell below 25 for the remainder of the contest.

The Tigers came up with 16 steals on the night, led by Ashley Salgado (Ottumwa, IA/Ottumwa) who grabbed four thefts. Danielle Montgomery (Beaman, IA/BCLUW) led the Tigers with nine rebounds, including six on the offensive end.

MCC resumes play tomorrow against host MCC-Penn Valley at 12:00 PM. The two teams met previously this year with the Tigers taking the season-opening win 74-57.
