Tigers finish weekend sweep with 87-65 win over NCMC

Trenton, MO—The Marshalltown Community College women's basketball team completed its weekend sweep at the NCMC Classic, defeating tournament host North Central Missouri College 87-65 on Saturday afternoon. Mackenzie Gott (Oskaloosa, IA/Oskaloosa) led the way with 24 points and 10 rebounds for MCC.

Gott came through with a big performance for the Tigers on Saturday after scoring just six points on Friday. The sophomore recorded her third 20-point game of the year while also picking up her sixth double-double of the season. Gott hit a season-high 11 field goals while shooting 57.8 percent from the floor. Gott now ranks third in the conference with 9.1 rebounds per contest. 

Jasmin Howe (Millicent, Australia/Millicent) came off the bench to score 20 points, hitting four of her six three-point attempts. MCC's floor leader Ashley Salgado (Ottumwa, IA/Ottumwa) tied a career-high with 11 assists to go along with 11 points for her first career double-double. Kaleigh Sieck (Toledo, IA/South Tama) continued to have the hot hand for MCC, knocking down all three of her shots from beyond the arc, shooting 5-7 overall and knocking down all four free-throw attempts for 17 points.

As a team, the Tigers shot 50.0 percent from three-point range, hitting a season-high 10 threes on the night, including seven in the first half. MCC has hit at least seven threes in a game five times this season. MCC shot 45.8 percent from the floor and are now tied with North Iowa Area Community College for first-place in the Iowa Community College Athletic Conference (ICCAC) with a 45.2 field goal percentage on the year.

After posting a 10-1 nonconference mark to open the season, including seven straight wins, the Tigers will open their ICCAC schedule with a home game against Ellsworth Community College at 5:00 PM on Dec. 11 as part of a home doubleheader with the men's team who will also take on Ellsworth at 7:00 PM.
