Offense struggles as MCC falls on the road to Northeast

Norfolk, NE—The Marshalltown Community College women's basketball team fell to Northeast Community College 86-47 on the road Saturday night, snapping the team's two-game winning streak. The Tigers are now 12-5 on the year.

Ilsie Calles (Van Nuys, CA/Fulton Prep) scored a team-high 12 points on the night, shooting 5-6 at the free throw line. Ashley Salgado (Ottumwa, IA/Ottumwa) and Jamerka Martin (Milwaukee, WI/Rufus King) joined Calles in double-digits with 10 points each. Courtney Williams-Perry recorded her seventh double-digit rebounding game of the year with a team-high 13 boards.

Playing without two of the team's top four scorers in Mackenzie Gott (Oskaloosa, IA/Oskaloosa) and Kaleigh Sieck (Toledo, IA/South Tama), the Tigers struggled to stay with Division I Northeast early on. The Hawks jumped out to an 8-0 lead before Jasmin Howe (Millicent, Australia/Millicent) hit back-to-back layups. Martin knocked down a three-point shot and Williams-Perry hit a free throw to tie the game at 10, but the Hakws took control from there, ending the half on a 34-16 run to pull away.

Calles knocked down a three to open the second half scoring for the Tigers but the Northeast full-court pressure kept MCC in check for the remainder of the game.

The 47 points are a season-low for the Tigers as MCC shot just 26.2 percent from the floor, its second lowest mark on the year.

MCC returns home for an Iowa Community College Athletic Conference (ICCAC) contest on Jan. 22 as the Tigers host Southeastern Community College.
