Tigers six-game ICCAC winning streak comes to a halt at No. 1 NIACC

Mason City, IA—The Marshalltown Community College women's basketball team dropped a 92-68 contest to No. 1 North Iowa Area Community College on Saturday afternoon, snapping the team's six game Iowa Community College Athletic Conference (ICCAC) winning streak. The Tigers drop to 7-4 in conference play while the Trojans improved to 7-0.

Ashley Salgado (Ottumwa, IA/Ottumwa) recorded a team-high 15 points to go along with eight assists and five rebounds. Rusty Henio (Tama, IA/Pine Hill) produced one of her best efforts of the season, tallying her first career double-double with 12 points and 11 rebounds. Courtney Williams-Perry (Milwaukee, WI/Bradley Tech) produced her third double-double of the season with 10 points and 14 rebounds.

The Tigers fell behind early to the top-ranked Trojans as NIACC scored the game's first seven points. In a four minute span, the Trojans put together an 11-3 run to build a double-digit lead. NIACC continued to extend its advantage and went into halftime leading 45-27. MCC committed 16 turnovers in the first 20 minutes.

The margin proved to be too large for the Tigers to rally despite putting up 41 points in the second frame. MCC hit just 3-19 three-point attempts and shot 38.7 percent from the floor on the day.

MCC's bright spot was the team's rebounding effort as the Tigers grabbed 57 rebounds, the second-most for the team this year. Williams-Perry has grabbed at least 11 rebounds in seven straight games now.

Prior to Saturday's defeat, the Tigers had not lost a conference game since Jan. 8 when the Tigers suffered a 78-49 loss to Kirkwood Community College. MCC remains in fourth place in the conference standings, one game ahead of fifth place Des Moines Area Community College who knocked off No. 7 Kirkwood on Saturday.

The Tigers will host Kirkwood at 5:00 PM on Wednesday.
