Estherville, IA—The Marshalltown Community College women's basketball team dropped its fourth straight Iowa Community College Athletic Conference (ICCAC) game as the Tigers fell to Iowa Lakes Community College 63-59 on Wednesday night. Mackenzie Gott (Oskaloosa, IA/Oskaloosa) scored a game-high 18 points for the Tigers.
MCC jumped all over the Lakers in the first half, building a double-digit lead over the home team. Jasmin Howe (Millicent, Australia/Millicent) put the Tigers up 19-8 with a three-point shot midway through the first frame, part of a 12-0 run for MCC. The Tigers maintained its double-digit advantage for a majority of the first half. MCC scored six of the final eight points to take a 35-23 lead into the intermission.
The second half proved to be a different story for both teams as the Lakers opened up the second half on a 16-9 run. The Tigers controlled the lead until a three-point shot from Iowa Lakes tied the game at 52. The Lakers finished the game on a 11-7 run to upset the Tigers.
Howe finished the game with 11 points but the Tigers connected on just 34.5 percent of its shots. MCC was outrebounded 45-24, including a 13-3 edge on the offensive glass. Ashley Salgado (Ottumwa, IA/Ottumwa) registered seven assists to go along with five points and four rebounds.
The Tigers will travel to Grand View University to take on the team's JV squad at 7:00 PM on Feb. 24.
