Head coach Steve Garber kicked off the 2014-15 recruiting season by heading out of state, inking forward Chassidy Lewis from Peoria, IL to play for the Marshalltown Community College women's basketball team next season. The forward, who recently finished up her high school career at Manual High School, is the first signing for Garber as a head coach at MCC.

Garber praised the potential that Lewis brings to the Tigers. "At 6-foot-1, Chassidy has a great upside that has yet to be brought. If she can adapt to the intensity at the college level, she'll do very well for us. She is a post player that is very much needed. It's a priority position for us heading into next year and Chassidy will help fill that void."

Lewis, who signed her National Letter of Intent on Friday, was thrilled to have the opportunity to join the Tiger program. "It's very special. It means I'm moving a step forward in my life. I never thought that I'd be able to do this. It really is a dream come true for me."

"I'm looking forward to helping Chassidy achieve much greater things for both her athletic and her academic career," Garber added.

Lewis plans to study nursing at MCC.
