MCC's Lacey resigns from basketball post

Marshalltown Community College Director of Athletics, Dan Huntley, has announced the resignation of Alison Lacey, head women's basketball coach, effective July 1, 2013.

Lacey was hired to head the women's basketball program in Feb. 2012. Lacey finished the 2011-12 season after former coach Larry Roberts was released from his coaching duties. The Tigers finished the year with an 11-17 record while Lacey led the team to an 11-20 record in 2012-13, her only full season as head coach.

Lacey's resignation comes on the footsteps of her fiancée TJ Otzelberger's acceptance of a coaching position with the men's basketball program at the University of Washington. Otzelberger is a former assistant of the Iowa State University men's basketball team. The two were married on June 1 in Milwaukee, WI.

Lacey returns to Washington nearly two years after being a member of the 2010-2011 Seattle Storm. Lacey, an Iowa State graduate, was the highest drafted player in school history, receiving the no. 10 selection in the 2010 WNBA draft.

"I am thankful for the time Alison spent on our campus" said Huntley. "She made an immediate impact on our student athletes with her coaching style and practice preparation. We all wish her well as she moves onto the next stage in her life."

A national search for her replacement will begin immediately.
