Tigers roll to first win of the season

Moberly, MO—Jamerka Martin (Milwaukee, WI/Rufus King) went for a career-high 25 points to lead the Marshalltown Community College women's basketball team to its first win of the year, a 76-63 victory over Moberly Area Community College at the Comfort Inn/Pizza Hut Classic, hosted by the Greyhounds.

Martin drained five three-point shots as the Tigers went 11-21 from beyond the arc on the night. Jasmin Howe (Millicent, Australia/Millicent) and Ilsie Calles (Van Nuys, CA/Fulton Prep) hit three three-point shots each and finished with 16 points apiece.

Courtney Williams-Perry (Milwaukee, WI/Bradley Tech) grabbed 12 rebounds on the night and added seven points in the win.

The Tigers controlled things early on against the tournament host and built a double-digit lead midway through the first half. The Tigers jumped out to a 35-17 lead with under seven minutes to play and held a 43-26 at the first half.

Moberly Area scored nine of the first 11 points to open the second, but MCC was able to maintain its double-digit advantage. Williams-Perry hit three consecutive layups for the Tigers down the stretch, including a three-point play to increase the lead as the Tigers went on to pick up the win.

MCC will take on Little Priest Tribal College as part of a doubleheader with the MCC men's team on Tuesday night. The women will tip off at 5:00 PM and the men at 7:00 PM.
