Women's basketball to host 2014 Emerson JUCO Classic

The Marshalltown Community College women's basketball team will host the 2014 Emerson JUCO Classic this weekend. The Tigers will welcome NJCAA Division I members Highland (IL) Community College and Mineral Area College along with Division II member Des Moines Area Community College to the Student Activity Center.

The two-day event will tip-off at 5:00 PM on Friday as DMACC will take on Mineral Area. MCC will play its first game of the weekend against Highland at 7:00 PM. Saturday afternoon will pair Highland and DMACC at 2:00 PM while MCC and Mineral Area will close out the Classic at 4:00 PM.

The Tigers enter the weekend with a 2-1 record and are averaging 80.3 points per game. Jasmin Howe (Millicent, Australia/Millicent) leads four players in double-figures with 15.7 points per game. Jamerka Martin (Milwaukee, WI/Rufus King) is shooting 56.2 percent from three-point land and is averaging 14.7 points per contest.

Highland makes the trip to Marshalltown with a 0-3 record. The Cougars fell to Moberly Area Community College on Nov. 7, 70-57, a team that MCC defeated 76-63 on Nov. 11.

The Mineral Area Cardinals sport a 5-1 record so far this year and are led by four different scorers averaging at least 10 points per game. The Cardinals are outscoring their opponents by 33.3 points per game this year.

A familiar foe to the Tigers, DMACC is currently 4-2. They are led by London Vais who is averaging 10.4 points and 7.0 rebounds, both team highs. The Bears took two of three games from the Tigers in 2013-14, including a 72-65 win in the Region XI Tournament First Round.
