Shooting woes hinder MCC at Kirkwood

Cedar Rapids, IA—The Marshalltown Community College women's basketball team dropped a 80-45 road game to Kirkwood Community College on Saturday afternoon. Jamerka Martin (Milwaukee, WI/Rufus King) scored a game-high 19 points in the loss.

Kirkwood jumped out to a quick start on the Tigers, leading 14-4, but MCC put together a 7-0 run of their own to pull within three. The Eagles, ranked No. 7 in this week's NJCAA Division II Poll, answered right back with seven straight of their own to pull ahead.

From that point on, Kirkwood closed out the half on a 25-8 to run to take a 46-19 lead at halftime. MCC hit just 27.2 percent of its first half shots, and knocked down only three of their first 15 three-point attempts. The Tigers finished with a 26.2 shooting percentage, including a 21.9 percent clip from three-point land.

Martin tied a season-high with five three-point shots on 10 attempts to reach double-figures for the eighth time this year.

MCC will travel to Highland Community College- Illinois on Dec. 15 to take on the Cougars at 5:00 PM.
