Tigers' streak halted on the road at Northeast

Norfolk, NE—The Marshalltown Community College women's basketball team was unable to build off of a convincing conference win from Saturday night as the Tigers dropped a 64-42 Iowa Community College Athletic Conference (ICCAC) road contest to the Northeast Community College Hawks on Wednesday night. Jasmin Howe (Millicent, Australia/Millicent) was the lone Tiger in double-figures with 13.

With the loss, which snaps a three-game winning streak, the Tigers fall to 1-1 in the ICCAC, forcing a three-way tie between the three conference opponents. MCC is now 12-8 on the year.

Wednesday's game saw just five points total through the first three minutes, but it was the Hawks that emerged, putting together a 15-3 run to go up 18-5 over the Tigers. MCC answered with a 10-2 run of its own, capped by a three-point shot from Sammie Sproul (Waterloo, IA/Waterloo West). Despite holding Northeast without a field goal for nearly four minutes late in the first half, the Tigers trailed 30-19 at halftime.

Howe scored six straight points to open the second half for the Tigers with two three-point shots, but the Hawks' defense shut down MCC midway through the frame and capitalized with a 12-2 run. Northeast eventually built a 20-point lead, 53-33, with six minutes to play, and never looked back.

Jaden Davenport (Meskwaki, IA/Meskwaki) came off the bench to grab nine rebounds and score five points. JeAnn Hiraldo (Ames, IA/Ames) contributed eight points and five rebounds in the loss.

The Tiger offense was limited all-around on Wednesday. MCC managed to shoot just 27.1 percent from the floor, including a 21.1 percent clip from beyond the arc. The Tigers hit just six of 12 free throw as well.

MCC travels to Mineral Area College on Jan. 27 for a 5:00 PM matchup.
