Tigers close out regular season with 80-60 win

Des Moines, IA—Sammie Sproul (Waterloo, IA/Waterloo West) posted her second-straight game of at least 20 points to lead the Marshalltown Community College women's basketball team to an 80-60 victory over Grand View JV in the 2014-15 regular season finale. Sproul finished with a team-high 21 points.

The Tigers posted a strong shooting night from every spot on the floor, including the free throw line. MCC shot 49.0 percent from the floor, 45.8 percent from three-point range, and 86.4 percent from the charity stripe. Sproul finished the night 7-8 at the free throw line.

Joining Sproul in double-figures was Jasmin Howe (Millicent, Australia/Millicent) for the 10th straight game, scoring 17 points. JeAnn Hiraldo (Ames, IA/Ames) scored 12 points while Jamerka Martin (Milwaukee, WI/Rufus King) hit three three-point shots to finish with 11.

As a team, the Tigers knocked down 11 three-point shots and went 19-22 at from the free throw line.

Howe pulled down seven rebounds and dished out six assists while Courtney Williams-Perry (Milwaukee, WI/Bradley Tech) grabbed a team-high eight rebounds.

Howe's 17 points give her 507 for the season and 964 for her career at MCC. The sophomore currently leads the Iowa Community College Athletic Conference (ICCAC) in points per game, total points, free throws per game, free throw percentage, three-point percentage, and field goal percentage.

The Tigers have now recorded back-to-back winning seasons for the first time since the 2009-2010/2010-11 seasons.

MCC will appear in its' first NJCAA Division I Region XI Tournament game on Feb. 25 as the No. 3 seed, travelling to No. 2 seed Iowa Western Community College for a chance to take on top-seeded Northeast Community College for the Region XI Championship on Feb. 28.
