Tigers fall short in Region XI Tournament

Council Bluffs, IA—The Marshalltown Community College women's basketball season came to an end in the opening round of the Region XI Tournament on Thursday, falling to second-seeded Iowa Western Community College 71-60 at the Kanesville Arena.

The Tigers finish the 2014-15 campaign with a 17-14 record.

Jamerka Martin (Milwaukee, WI/Rufus King) scored a team-high 13 points while Sammie Sproul (Waterloo, IA/Waterloo West) scored 12. Jasmin Howe (Millicent, Australia/Millicent) and JeAnn Hiraldo (Ames, IA/Ames) each contributed 11 points.

Meeting for the third time this season with the series evened at one, the Tigers looked to advance to the Region XI Championship in their first season of competition. The Reivers held a lead for much of the first half and took a 36-26 edge in to halftime.

Hiraldo knocked down a long-range three to spark the MCC offense in the opening minutes of the second half to bring the Tigers within five, 48-43. The Reivers added multiple baskets in their next few trips down court, but Ilsie Calles (Van Nuys, CA/Fulton Prep) drained a three of her own to keep the deficit to single-digits.

Eventually the Reivers proved to be too much for the Tigers as the home team knocked MCC out of postseason play.

Iowa Western shot 52.9 percent from the floor compared to the Tigers' 35.2 clip.

Four Tigers played in their final game of their MCC career- Calles, Howe, Martin, and Courtney Williams-Perry (Milwaukee, WI/Bradley Tech).
