Marshalltown, IA—The Marshalltown Community College Women's Basketball team dropped the opening game of the Meskwaki Bingo Casino Hotel Classic on Thursday night, falling to Mount Mercy JV 63-46 at the Student Activity Center. Sophomore JeAnn Hiraldo (Ames, IA/Ames) scored a team-high 22 points in the loss.

The Tigers (1-4) fell behind in the opening frame as the Mustangs took a 21-16 lead at the end of the first quarter. Mount Mercy held on to its five point edge with a 34-29 edge at halftime. The Tigers provided an offensive threat to start the third quarter, scoring the first five points of the frame as Shyannon Wolf (Tama, IA/Meskwaki) knocked down a three-point shot to tie the game at 34.

MCC's attack slowed the rest of the way as the Tigers scored just three points over the final eight minutes of the quarter and put just nine points on the board in the final quarter as Mount Mercy took the win.

Hiraldo produced 13 points in the first half while freshman Barbara Araoz (Neuquen, Argentina/Maria Auxiliadota) added 10 points through 20 minutes of play, but a silent offense in the second half led to the Tigers' loss.

The Tigers return to action on Saturday for the final day of the Meskwaki Classic with a 3:00 PM match against Little Priest Tribal College. The Warriors will take on Mount Mercy at 5:00 PM on Friday at the Student Activity Center.
