The Marshalltown Community College Women's Basketball team will be hosting the 2015 Emerson Classic this weekend at the Student Activity Center. The weekend features three teams along with the Tigers- Des Moines Area Community College, Mineral Area College, and Missouri Valley JV.
The classic tips off with DMACC and Mineral Area at 5:00 PM on Friday night. MCC and Missouri Valley JV will square off at 7:00 PM. Saturday's slate features DMACC and Missouri Valley JV at 2:00 PM followed by MCC and Mineral Area in the classic finale at 4:00 PM.
MCC comes into the classic with a 2-3 record and are led by sophomore JeAnn Hiraldo. Hiraldo is leading the Tigers in points per game (18.8), rebounds per game (12.0), blocks (13), and steals (20). Hiraldo was named the Iowa Community College Athletic Conference (ICCAC) Division I Women's Basketball Player of the Week this week after averaging 22 points and 11 rebounds last week.
DMAC enters the weekend with a 4-1 record and is averaging 93.2 points per game. The Bears have four players averaging double-figures, led by London Vais' 19.8 points per contest.
Mineral Area is currently 2-2 on the year after dropping their previous two games, including a 75-61 defeat against ICCAC Division I member Iowa Western on Nov. 14. Janekia Mason's 23.5 points ranks fifth nationally while her 9.3 rebounds also lead the Cardinals.
In last year's Emerson Classic, MCC went 1-1 after defeating Highland Community College 92-59 in the opener before falling to Mineral Area 70-54 on the final day. DMACC went 0-2 with an 81-60 loss to Mineral Area and a 70-67 loss to Highland.
