Offense falters against Jefferson on opening night of Turkey Classic

Keokuk, IA—The Marshalltown Community College Women's Basketball team suffered a 74-44 loss to Jefferson College on the opening night of the Baymont Inn Turkey Classic hosted by Southeastern Community College on Friday night. Cassie Cullen (Ankeny, IA/Lynnville-Sully) posted a team-high 14 points.

The Tigers trailed by one point, 12-11, after the first quarter, and by just four points, 26-22 at halftime. The Vikings took control of the game with a 25 point third quarter for a 14 point lead. MCC scored just seven points in the final frame to drop to 4-5 on the year.

Barbara Araoz (Neuquen, Argentina/Maria Auxiliadota) added eight points for the Tigers after going 8-8 at the free throw line. As a team, the Tigers went 15-17 from the charity stripe. JeAnn Hiraldo (Ames, IA/Ames) also added eight points and Accacia Huff (Peoria, IL/Central) scored six points and grabbed a team-high nine rebounds for the Tigers.

After scoring just 14 points through her first three career games, Cullen is averaging 15.3 points over her last three contests for MCC.

MCC concludes play at the Baymont Inn Turkey Classic against host Southeastern at 3:00 PM on Saturday.
