Slow start dooms MCC against Southeastern

Keokuk, IA—Three players scored in double-figures but the Marshalltown Community College Women's Basketball team fell 69-49 to host Southeastern Community College at the Baymont Inn Turkey Classic on Saturday afternoon. The Tigers fall to 4-6 on the year.

Jeann Hiraldo (Ames, IA/Ames) scored a team-high 16 points while Cassie Cullen (Ankeny, IA/Lynnville-Sully) recorded her first-career double-double with 12 points and a career-high 13 rebounds. Accacia Huff (Peoria, IL/Central) added 11 points and six rebounds.

The Blackhawks (9-1) took an early lead against the Tigers and never looked back as the home team led 25-7 after one quarter of play. MCC outscored Southeastern 13-12 in the second quarter, but trailed 37-20 at halftime. The Tigers kept the second half close, but the slow start denied MCC of the win.

After committing 25 turnovers on Friday night, the Tigers limited their miscues to just 11 on Saturday, the second-fewest in a game this year.

MCC returns home to take on North Iowa Area Community College for a 7:00 PM matchup on Dec. 2. The MCC Men's Basketball team will host Central JV at 5:00 PM as part of a doubleheader.
