The Marshalltown Community College Women's Basketball team is in full swing with its preseason workouts and classroom studies, but the Tigers took a day off on Saturday to get out in the community and volunteer at the 2016 Oktemberfest Pancake Breakfast, sponsored by the Marshalltown Kiwanis.

For the third year in a row the Tigers helped celebrate the Saturday festivities by serving breakfast at the Veterans Memorial Coliseum. Hundreds of people venture to the Coliseum every year to take in the breakfast prior to the annual parade that is held in downtown Marshalltown. The Tigers helped kick things off on Tuesday afternoon with community service preparation at the Noon Kiwanis luncheon.

Sophomore Dalia Cantu enjoyed her time throughout the day. "It's great to get out here and see a lot of happy faces," Cantu stated. "The people really enjoy getting together for the breakfast each year and we're glad to help start their day with a smile."

Freshman Loralei Siliga of San Leandro, CA experienced her first Oktemberfest in Marshalltown. "Everyone here has been very welcoming," Siliga expressed. "It's a great town with a lot of happy people and I'm glad to be getting out in the community to meet those that support us throughout the year."

Following the breakfast, the Tigers also got out into the streets of Marshalltown to help clean up following the annual parade that runs down Main Street.

The Tigers' 2016 season is quickly approaching. Stay tuned as we announce the schedule in the coming days.
