Marshalltown, IA— A quick start in the opening quarter provided the Marshalltown Community College women's basketball team some early breathing room which led to a 74-41 victory over William Penn JV on Friday night at the Emerson Classic. All 10 Tigers scored in the win.

Freshman Loralei Siliga (Euless, TX/San Leandro) collected her first-career double-double, scoring 14 points to go along with 10 rebounds, both team highs. Sophomore Victoria Pothast (Melbourne, IA/West Marshall) and Estelle Eduardo (Villeurbanne, France/Lycee Ernest Couteaux) each added 11 points while Alyssa Roth (Clinton, IA/Northeast) scored 10 points for her third-straight double-digit scoring effort.

MCC jumped out to an 8-0 lead, all by the hand of Eduardo who hit a pair of three-point shots and a layup to ignite the Tiger offense. MCC led by as many 14 in the first quarter after Claudia Morente's (Girona, Spain/Institut Juame Vicens Vives) three-ball gave the Tigers a 24-10 edge in the opening quarter.

William Penn brought the game within eight in the second quarter, but Siliga's 10 points in the quarter warded off any chance of a comeback as MCC took a 38-23 lead into halftime.

Both sides took a defensive stance in the third quarter, totaling just 18 points. Morente connected on another three in the quarter to keep the offense moving towards victory. The Tigers closed out the game with a 25-11 advantage in the final quarter as Pothast scored her final seven in the frame.

Sophomore Barbara Araoz (Neuquen, Argentina/Maria Auxiliadota) added seven points and eight rebounds for MCC. Freshman Kiana Weston (Skokie, IL/Niles North) came off the bench to add six points and five rebounds. Morente closed out the night with eight points, three assists, and three rebounds.

MCC forced 25 turnovers on Friday night, turning the William Penn mistakes into 24 points. The Tigers connected on eight three-point shots and are now averaging 6.25 threes per contest this year.

The Tigers wrap up the Emerson Classic at the Student Activity Center on Saturday night, a 5:00 PM date with Kansas City Kansas Community College. The Blue Devils lost to Des Moines Area Community College 68-64 on Friday afternoon in the opening game of the Emerson Classic.
