Balanced scoring lifts MCC over Black Hawk

Moline, IL—Loralei Siliga (Euless, TX/San Leandro) recorded a double-double and Estelle Eduardo (Villeurbanne, France/Lycee Ernest Couteaux) poured in a team-high 19 points to snap a three-game losing streak for the Marshalltown Community College women's basketball team as the Tigers defeated Black Hawk College 75-60.

Siliga finished the night with 14 points, her seventh game in double-digits this season, to go along with a career-high 15 rebounds. Eduardo helped the Tigers jump out to an early lead, scoring 14 points in the first half, including a pair of three-point shots.

Three other Tigers added at least 10 points on the night. Alyssa Roth (Clinton, IA/Northeast) continued to be a scoring threat for the Tigers, adding 13 points for her seventh-straight game in double-figures. Freshman Claudia Morente (Girona, Spain/Institut Juame Vicens Vives) posted 10 points with six assists and four steals. Dalia Cantu (Monterrey, Mexico/ITESM Eugenio Garza La Guera) tallied a season-best 10 points.

Victoria Pothast (Melbourne, IA/West Marshall) grabbed eight of the team's 39 rebounds in the win.

After playing to a 12-12 tie through the first quarter, the Tigers built a 30-24 lead at halftime after Eduardo scored 10 points in the second quarter alone. Both Roth and Siliga's scoring efforts picked up in the second half as the two freshman combined for 22 points in the final two frames to lead MCC to its third victory of the year.

The Tigers host Des Moines Area Community College at 5:00 PM on Thursday night.
