Tigers stumble at home against Kirkwood

Marshalltown, IA—The Marshalltown Community College women's basketball team suffered a 77-41 defeat to Kirkwood Community College at the Student Activity Center on Wednesday night. Freshman Claudia Morente (Girona, Spain/Institut Juame Vicens Vives) led the Tigers with 11 points.

Morente reached double-figures for the fifth time this season and added five rebounds to go along with a career-high five steals. Freshman Alyssa Roth (Clinton, IA/Northeast) came off the bench to score 10 points and pulled down a team-high six rebounds.

The Tigers (4-7) battled with Kirkwood (9-0), the No. 2 ranked NJCAA Division II team, throughout the first quarter. Trailing 9-3, MCC put together a quick run and trailed by just one, 14-13 at the end of the first quarter. The Eagles dominated the second quarter, outscoring MCC 27-11 to take a 41-24 advantage at halftime.

Kirkwood continued to extend its lead and held a 62-30 advantage through three quarters before finishing off MCC in the fourth.

MCC will entertain Southeastern Community College at 5:30 PM on Dec. 12 at the Student Activity Center.
