Des Moines, IA—The Marshalltown Community College women's basketball team fell on the road to Grand View JV 88-64 on Monday night. MCC falls to 11-16 on the year with the loss.
Freshmen Loralei Siliga (Euless, TX/San Leandro) and Estelle Eduardo (Villeurbanne, France/Lycee Ernest Couteaux) led the Tiger offense with 14 points each. Silliga added a team-high eight rebounds. Alyssa Roth (Clinton, IA/Northeast) went 7-7 from the free throw line and finished the night with nine points while Claudia Morente (Girona, Spain/Institut Juame Vicens Vives) and Kiana Weston (Skokie, IL/Niles North) contributed eight points each.
MCC trailed by just five, 24-19 after the first quarter, but the Vikings outscored the Tigers 22-8 in the second quarter and pulled away in the second half.
MCC hosts Northeast Community College at 5:00 PM on Saturday night for the team's regular season finale as part of a doubleheader with the men's team. The winner of Saturday's game will clinch the No. 2 seed in the upcoming Region XI Tournament.
Saturday's game will also feature Jam the Gym Night for local high school seniors as well as Sophomore Night where two Tigers- Barbara Araoz (Neuquen, Argentina/Maria Auxiliadota) and Dalia Cantu (Monterrey, Mexico/ITESM Eugenio Garza La Guera) will be honored.
