Tigers Fall in Home Opener

The MCC women's basketball team hosted the Statesmen of William Penn University JV Wednesday night in the Student Activity Center on the Marshalltown Community College campus. The Tigers would drop their home opener 68-46. Although the Tigers were down by 10 going into the fourth quarter, the Tigers would be outscored 17-5 in the final ten minutes of play to fall to 0-1 on the season.

The Tigers were led in scoring by sophomore Alyssa Roth with 16 points on the night. Roth was 6-14 from the field, 1-2 from three and made 3-8 free throws. As a team, the Tigers shot 24% from the field while turning the ball over fifteen times. The Statesmen were led in scoring by Brasia Solid who scored 26 points while going 12-20 from the field while playing 30 minutes. The Statesmen were 38% from the field and committed 12 turnovers on the night.

"I though defensively our team came out enthusiastic and played well," stated Head Coach Steve Garber after the game. "Offensively I think we spaced ourselves well, I think we did a good job of getting the ball to the open player but we need to knock down more shots. We will get back to work and get better as the season progresses."

The women's basketball team will be back in action Tuesday, October 7th when they travel to Southwestern Community College to take on the Spartans. The game will be streamed live on the Southwestern Community College Athletic website with links posted on the Marshalltown Athletics Twitter and Facebook.
