The first day of the Emerson Classic ended with each Tiger team picking up a victory. The day began with a 1:00 women's game between Des Moines Area Community College and Moberly Area Community College. In a tough back and forth, the Moberly Greyhounds came out with a victory as they defeated the Bears 60-46. The 3:00 men's matchup between the Iowa Lakes Community College Lakers and the Highland Community College Cougars ended in dramatic fashion as the Lakers trailed the entire game before tying with six seconds left with a player at the free throw line. Making both free throws the Lakers would win the game 80-78.
The Tiger women's basketball team would have the most exciting game of the night as they took the Central Community College Raiders to double overtime before securing the 87-84 victory. Two outstanding sophomores came up big for the Tigers in Loralei Siliga and Alyssa Roth. Siliga would drop 37 points awhile grabbing 18 rebounds in her 50 minutes of play while fellow sophomore Alyssa Roth finished with 20 points on the night. The Tigers will take on Moberly Area Community College tomorrow night at 5:00
The night finished with a blowout victory for the MCC men's basketball team and they would defeat the William Penn University JV squad 95-67. Sophomore Mohamed Thiam again led the team offensively with 26 points and grabbed 16 rebounds on the night. Oscar Kao would end the night in double digits as he dropped 13 points and Berk Karadan would finish with 10 points.
"We were able to put up some points tonight but we are far from our best basketball," stated Head Coach Brynjar Brynjarsson. "We make simple mental errors that can be fixed, we will need to head into Saturdays game with more focus."
