Efficient Shooting Leads to Victory

The MCC women's basketball team traveled to Moline, Illinois Thursday night to take on the Braves of Black Hawk College. The Braves were 2-5 on the season entering the game and averaging 53 points per game. The Braves have won their last two games against Augustana JV and College of Lake County 67-49 and 53-40. The Tigers were coming off a poor performance Tuesday when they fell to the Bears of DMACC 76-42. The Tigers would get back in the win column as they defeated the Braves 73-50.

The Tiger's offense worked efficiently as Loralei Siliga again finished with a double double scoring 31 points and bringing in 10 rebounds. Siliga went 13-22 from the field and 2-2 from the free throw line. Alyssa Roth got back to form, as she put up 20 points on the night going 8-11 from the field and 4-5 from the free throw line. Two-sport athlete Saydee Terrell, who spends her springs playing softball for the Tigers, recorded her first stats of the season, as she was able to steal the ball three times. Sarah Kavanh was as efficient as she has been all year as she earned her first double double of the season going 4-6 from the field for 10 points and grabbed 10 rebounds.

"We came out in the first quarter and played well, we made some substitutions in the second and got into a little foul trouble," stated Head Coach Steve Garber after the game. "We continue to turn the ball over to often but we also created a few turnover tonight so that was good to see. Loralei and Alyssa stepped up for us in terms of scoring and showed great leadership."

The Tigers will be back in action on Saturday (12/2) when they travel to Kansas City, Kansas to take on Kansas City Kansas Community College. The Blue Devils are currently 10-1 on the season while averaging 87 points per game. The Blue Devils have three players who average over 10 points a game. Freshman guard, Kisi Young leads the team, averaging 15.1 points per game and while shooting 60% from the field.
