Tigers Fall to Kirkwood

The MCC women's basketball team traveled to Cedar Rapids Wednesday night to take on the Eagles of Kirkwood Community College. The Eagles entered the game on a five game win streak after defeating Iowa Western Community College 56-53 Saturday night. The Tigers have had an up a down season as they entered the game 5-6 while averaging 55 points per game. The Tigers would struggle on the road as the team collectively shot 27.5 % from the field and would fall to the Eagles 75-43.

Alyssa Roth would lead the Tigers in scoring, finishing the night with 15 points while grabbing seven rebounds. Fellow sophomores Claudia Morente and Loralei Siliga each finished with seven points. Turnovers plagued the Tigers offense all game long with the Tigers finishing with 25. The Eagles were able to make the most of the Tigers mistakes, scoring 35 points off turnovers. Kirkwood finished with two players in double-digit point totals as Megan Axcell and Leah Robinson each finished with 10 points on the night.

The team will be back in action on Saturday (12/9) when they travel to Fort Dodge, Iowa for a showdown with the Tritons of Iowa Central. The Tritons are 4-6 on the year and are led by freshmen Brittany West who averages 16.5 points per game. Saturday's competition will tip off at 2:00 with a live stream provided on the Iowa Central athletics website, links will also be posted on the MCC athletics website and on the MCC athletics Facebook and Twitter.
